The Seal Ring Cannula is a tiny medical device that forms the essential interface between a donor kidney and the organ preservation equipment that keeps it functioning.
Formation worked closely with procurement specialists and transplant surgeons to understand a specific portion of the renal artery known as the aortic patch. The aortic patch is a delicate, and highly variable part of the renal artery through which a kidney is ultimately joined to a recipient circulatory system. The principal design challenge was devising a way to interface with the aortic patch using the most gentle means possible.
Although small in size, weighing only 5 grams, every surface of the Seal Ring cannula has was designed to ensure the quality of the delicate union between a donor organ and recipient.
